I realized the other day that I have neglected to pass on a lot of the culinary knowledge my own mother passed on to me… namely secrets of great pie crusts, baking bread from scratch – and no bread machines either. Have to put the hard work into making the dough! So when the 4th of July menu included a Strawberry Rhubarb pie, and my daughter expressed an interest in creating the pie herself… I jumped at the opportunity. After all, I’ve only got her home with me one more year! Time is ticking. So with a little supervision and a couple of tips/tricks… off she went.

And yes, it tastes as fantastic as it looks. The crust was flaky and PERFECT! The filling the perfect balance of sweet and tart with a bit of cinnamon. WOW – the house smelled so good that waiting for the pie to bake and cool was really asking a lot from our family! If anyone would like the recipe, it can be found here.
