The second leg of the “Death March Through Italy” brought us by train, to the city of Naples and then again by the Circumvesuvio (a local train – ie stops every 3 minutes!) to Pompeii. The ruins at Pompeii are absolutely unbelievable. Time really has frozen there. It is so well preserved that you can imagine life continuing around you. Excavations continue and they are working hard to preserve the frescos and mosaics. Some absolutely breath taking frescos are found in the House of Mysteries. And the mosaics declaring “beware of dog” are very clever! Again, additional photos can be found on my flickr… link at the bottom.
